Amsterdam Signage

I was going through an old hard drive recently and came across loads of photos of signage and typography taken in various cities around Europe and the world. I never posted them when I took them, I just saved them for my own reference. Featured in this post are a few photos from Amsterdam in 2009. It always amazes me how other countries seem to have a much stronger visual culture in terms of design than we do.

I'll do a post of these once a month from various cities, until I have most of them online. Enjoy!

Wedding Invites

I recently finished these wedding invitations for friends of ours, Dan and Carola. I'm really pleased with how they turned out, they wanted to channel the Great Gatsby buzz that's around at the moment. Can't wait for the wedding!

Greece

Just back from two lovely weeks in Greece. I went with 7 (!) other girls, all a brilliant laugh. We flew from Dublin-Athens and then island hopped Santorini - Naxos - Paros. My camera died in Santorini!!! Heart-breaking and really short-sighted on my behalf, I really missed it! One of my favourite things to do on holidays is take pics. Here's one that I did manage to take, stereotypical / classic (whatever your preference is!) view of Greece. I have another small few up on my Flickr. I would love to go back, food, weather, people, sight-seeing, all amazing! I badly need a new camera too, this one has had it's day I think!

Keyquests.com

Now that the H.Dip is over, i'm working for the summer with Keyquests.com, a tourism service comprising of a website and an app. We've LOADS to do and my role as lead designer is really varied, a lot of print and web design, some illustration, and a lot of wireframing and conceptualising software. We're hoping to launch in August, looking forward to seeing the hard work come to fruition and to seeing how people respond to it.

Rain Room!

Rain Room at the Barbican, 2012 from rAndom International on Vimeo.

Wow! This looks amazing. A new installation from Random International which involves creating a constant rain shower in a room (amazing enough on it's own!) that uses sensors to detect motion and thus avoid the interactors getting wet! It's currently at MoMA after making it's debut at the Barbican in London. Maybe because i'm Irish and it rains here all the time, but the idea of controlling the rain just blows my mind!

Maths Book Illustrations

I recently finished work illustrating a maths book for educate.ie. It's my first time illustrating a book and i'm really looking forward to seeing the finished product in print!

The book is for first year maths students. I've featured a few of the illustrations here.

Good Wives and Warriors animate!

Just came across this Good Wives and Warriors animation through Computer Arts. Their illustrative style fits perfectly into a psychedelic trance-y type animation. Can't wait to see more of this from them!

Here they are chatting about their process, I love what they do, it seems like a stream-of-consciousness, i'd love to hear about how they go about planning for these large scale paintings. Do they plan? Or do they just go with whatever comes out?

You can see more of their work on their website, I blogged about them last year as well.
