NOLA 2012!

We're recently back from a trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, what an amazing town! So much great music and art (and food!). I loved it. I've some photos up on flickr if you'd like to see more.

Interiors / Exteriors

We started a new project in college last week based on interiors and exteriors. I'm currently working on three ideas that represent different types of structures / dwellings in towns, suburbs and cities. I want to simplify down the shapes as much as possible and try to communicate their various characteristics as I see them through simple form and colour.

I've been researching other ceramic work that seems to me to explore interior / exterior space and how it's delineated. As usual there seems to be huge visual discrepancies between the work i'm drawn to! Here i've featured Isamu Noguchi, Susan Clusener and Masamichi Yoshikawa. I especially love Isamu Noguchi, there's something really special about his work. I had the opportunity to visit his sculpture garden in New York in 2004 and his work has stayed with me since.

Paper Over Cracks - Tour Poster

Slow Motion Heroes are going on tour around Ireland and the UK to promote their new single, Paper Over Cracks coming out on Fifa records on the 16th of March. The guys asked me to put a poster together that can be easily modified for the different gigs on the tour. I designed this poser based on the single cover, quite minimalist and quite, compared to how loud the band can be!

Boogie Night!

Colaiste Stiofain Naofa have a big showcase night coming up in The Pav. I designed the poster for them based on the theme "Boogie Night". Dress up, boogie down!

Van Gogh Japanese Inspired Paintings

Oldies but goodies as they say! Love the colour in these, really vibrant but harmonious at the same time.

Not directly from the Japanese, but for old times sake, this was on my wall for years as a teenager....

Ersy

We recently visited New Orleans for Mardi Gras, what a great city! Loads of music, art and great food. We visited the Ogden Museum which was fantastic. Great mix of Southern art from established to outsider artists.

One of my favourite exhibits was Ersy's. At the time I didn't take many photos as I thought there was probably plenty of images online, now I really wish I took photos of EVERYTHING as there's not a huge amount online at all! Here are two that I took, plus some I found on the web. I love how she plays with scale to create these distorted (often macabre), immersive realities, it's a very surreal experience wandering around her work.
